25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Wall

This weekend marks 25 years since the end of the divide between East and West Berlin. Given that I was in Berlin for almost a month this summer studying the Cold War and the impact it had on the city of Berlin (both East and West), it was amazing to be present during the celebrations.

White balloons were positioned along the line where the Berlin Wall once stood. It was really beautiful and powerful, reminding us of what once divided the city. I especially like that the balloons, while showing where the source of separation once stood, in no way obstructed the roads or walkways, allowing people to move freely from one area to another. Emphasizing that although the wall once stood there, it no longer does.

At the Brandenburg Tor, Undo Lindenberg was performing a show with other German artists, it was especially amazing when he played the song Sonderzug nach Pankow, a powerful Cold War anthem.

It was an amazing spectacle to say the least.
